3. Bẫy thường gặp
- Danh từ ghép (N + N): safety regulations, customer satisfaction, sales representative, application form, expiration date, job openings. Trước danh từ có thể là danh từ, không phải lúc nào cũng là tính từ.
- Người hay vật? applicant (người nộp) vs application (đơn) · consultant vs consultation · attendee vs attendance. Dịch xem động từ đi kèm cần người hay vật.
- Danh từ đếm được số ít cần mạo từ: “We need ------- to proceed” → approval (không đếm được) đúng; applicant sai vì thiếu an.
- Tính từ đuôi -ly: friendly, costly, timely, likely, orderly, lively, weekly, monthly → là tính từ, không phải trạng từ.
- Trạng từ đổi nghĩa: hard (chăm) vs hardly (hầu như không) · late (muộn) vs lately (gần đây) · high vs highly (rất: highly recommended) · close vs closely (chặt chẽ).
- V-ing / V3 làm tính từ: an exciting offer (gây hứng thú) vs excited customers (cảm thấy hào hứng) → xem Bài 7.
